I coached an entrepreneur last week who was struggling with a decision to sell a significant amount of his company to an equity investor to build inventory. I explained that if he wanted to slow his growth path and build strictly off purchase orders to get going – he could retain his equity with the trade-off of growing at a slower rate. But, first, he will have to decide what to do.
There is more than one way to grow a company. Each path comes with its risks and potential benefits. Everyone should work through these choices before being stuck in one particular direction.
