AmiSight 6/9: Is My Attitude About Calendly from the 18th Century?

Maybe I am old-fashioned. I constantly get emails from people requesting meetings with me. Instead of responding with a Calendly link or having one on the bottom of my emails, I reply and copy the incredible Karin (she has been keeping me organized for a long time 😊) and let her take over from there.

While offering a Calendly link is likely far more efficient, it also feels impersonal to me. It assumes that the person on the other side is technically comfortable enough to take care of it electronically instead of going back and forth with Karin and picking the time that works best for them.

So am I living in the 18th Century? I welcome your thoughts.

Totally agree with you, Ami. Maybe because of our ages, not sure, but i hate it and agree that it is not only impersonal, but also contrary to creating relationships.

As a CEO of a virtual assistant company where we are providing those "Karins" to our clients, I am still a fan of the scheduling link – both giving and receiving. You can still have Karin send a Calendly link for you and follow up to confirm meetings if that provides an added personal touch you and your contacts will appreciate. I also recommend adding a line in the email when sending a meeting link simply saying "use my meeting link here or feel free to suggest times that work best for you" which gives people the chance to choose to use the link or go manual.

I don't know how many times it has happened that I am manually…

I finally decided to put Calendly on my web page. It allows me to have a reasonable boundary about when I schedule consultations, rather than spending hours chasing each other via email trying to find a mutually agreeable time. Like others noted, most of us do not have personal assistants to handle scheduling.

Ami, you and I are fighting a battle that we will eventually surrender. Mostly, because the person on the other end does not have a Karin to help them go back and forth. They don't have time for it just like you don't. You have Karin and they have Calendly.
