Last week, the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Small Business Administration signed a Memorandum of Understanding to support American manufacturing. The agreement is designed to cultivate a pipeline of skilled workers to support domestic producers – 98 percent of whom are small businesses.
Under the agreement, the agencies will expand data-sharing and coordination on programs such as the department’s Registered Apprenticeship Program and the Veterans' Employment and Training Service. The Small Business Administration will also offer cross-agency training on loan programs to support manufacturing, including the 7 (a) and 504 loan programs. Let’s hope that it makes an impact.
