AmiSight 1/13: Sometimes Your Logic Has Nothing To Do With It

I recently spoke with an entrepreneur who is in a bind with his bank and considering a forbearance agreement.
He had what he believed was a 100% logical reason why the bank should subordinate one of its loans to another lender. He was angry that the bank wouldn’t even consider it.
The issue wasn’t his logic.
The issue was that his logic didn’t align with the bank’s credit policy.
From his point of view, the request made complete sense. From the bank’s point of view, it simply wasn’t an option—no matter how reasonable it sounded.
I had to explain that sometimes your logic has nothing to do with the decision being made.
In business, especially with banks, decisions are driven less by what makes sense to you and more by the rules they are required to follow. Understanding that difference can save a lot of time, frustration, and bad outcomes.
Sometimes the key isn’t pushing your logic harder—it’s learning theirs.
