For those uncomfortable at work gatherings that revolve around drinking and eating, there is a new trend heating up – gathering in a sauna.
The Wall Street Journal reports that the anti-alcohol movement sweeping through the tech industry is resulting in alternative networking, including steamy 200-degree “social saunas.” These new social saunas, which have popped up in San Francisco, New York, and Colorado this year, are built with stadium seating to fit around 20 to 40 people.
Often lined with ambient lighting that can switch from warm reds to neon pinks and blues, the saunas give a nightclub-vibe without the booze and late nights, which many young tech founders avoid these days.
Some etiquette has been established, such as wearing bathing suits and staying hydrated. While this may present an uncomfortable situation for some, a “corporate swimsuit” has been designed, which is basically a full-body rash guard, to make even the most modest more comfortable.
