With the Supreme Court ruling that Trump’s global tariffs are illegal, American business executives are trying to figure out if importers can reclaim billions in paid levies.
The Wall Street Journal reports while companies are cautiously optimistic, there is still a lot of uncertainty.
Not willing to concede, Trump has announced a new global tariff of 15% under a different legal authority, arguing the levies are necessary to address large trade and balance-of-payments deficits.
Although trade groups for retailers, apparel makers and others said they hoped companies could quickly reclaim billions in tariffs' payments, some lawyers warned that companies may need to file litigation to get refunds.
