AmiSight 6/2: They Don’t Need Your Advice—They Need You

"Don't offer a lecture to a person who needs a hug"
It’s easy to confuse problem-solving with caring. We think offering advice or a well-intentioned lecture will help—but for someone in distress, that might be the last thing they need.
What they really need is something much simpler and more powerful: To feel safe, heard, and not alone.
That might look like sitting quietly beside them, letting them breathe without trying to fix anything. Or it could be as small as a quick text that says, “I’m here if you need me.”
The first priority isn’t to offer solutions. It’s to simply be with them in it.
