It’s the end of an era for the screeching of AOL’s dial-up internet service that will be shut down on September 30, 2025, as reported in a LinkedIn article by John Tomase.
It peaked in the ‘90s and connected millions of Americans to the web. But as technology has drastically changed since, it went from millions in the early 2000s to just thousands in recent years.
The shutdown does not have an effect on AOL email or other services, but it closes the book for one of the most nostalgic chapters of the internet.
