Six months after Trump’s tariffs took effect, companies must decide whether to keep absorbing higher costs or raise prices.
The Wall Street Journal reports that while the global trade war hasn’t caused a surge in prices yet, pretariff inventories are running low, forcing companies to confront difficult pricing decisions they can no longer delay.
Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell recently said that tariffs’ effects on consumer prices “are now clearly visible” in some categories of goods and are expected to accumulate in the months ahead. However, according to a Richmond Fed survey, businesses aren’t so certain about the prices they will charge for the rest of the year.
