Now that the post-pandemic hiring rush has leveled off, corporate America is ending its firing freeze.


The Wall Street Journal reports that the mass layoffs at large companies such as Amazon, Target, and United Parcel Service signals an end to the “labor hoarding” trend.


Companies scrambled for years after the pandemic to build back their workforces, doing everything to keep the workers in fear of having a difficult time getting them back. Over the past two years America’s businesses have become increasingly reluctant to bring new employees on, resulting in a low-hire, low-fire environment.


But now companies are more comfortable with layoffs and using AI to automate more work to stabilize the bottom line.
