Has technology really streamlined our lives and made them easier?
Nicole Schildt, working mother of six, writes in Business Insider that between managing work, a busy household, juggling sports practices, and the never-ending stream of digital pings, she is living in a constant state of half-attention.
Although she admits her own mother certainly didn’t have it easy, Schildt believes she is burning out faster as part of the “exhausted generation.” After all, in her mother’s day, there was no expectation to respond instantly and no endless scroll of comparison waiting in her pocket.
After she was forced to unplug for a few hours when her phone died, she realized she can’t outsource her peace. Rather it comes from accepting that your worth isn’t tied to your productivity – and the world won’t fall apart if you rest.
