As the job market’s Great Freeze continues, more and more workers are considering entrepreneurship, including recent college graduates.
Business Insider reports that people may be starting businesses out of necessity, despite better-than-expected job growth in September. Job-search platform ZipRecruiter described the labor market's prolonged period of both employers and employees staying put as a "Great Freeze" with quits, layoffs and hiring remaining low.
Self-employment comes in many different forms, including independent contracting. The number of those in delivery work and gig economy freelancing surged by 50% between 2019 and 2024.
Although it may be easier to start your own businesses than in the past, with the help of AI tools and flexible work options, aspiring business owners still need to consider the basic tenets of entrepreneurship. Such tenants could be whether their idea matches their skills and passion, and if there's demand for it.
