Today I was lucky enough to sit down with the owner of Goff Tents and Events and Purdon Rental, Ian Goff, CERP. Both of Ian’s companies are full-service party and event rental stores located throughout central Kentucky. Ian has over 20 years of experience in various aspects of the event rental industry, including manufacturing, installation, event coordination and strategic planning for large-scale festivals and concerts. Ian has also served as President of the American Rental Association's Kentucky chapter since 2014, which was named national chapter of the year in 2015. In addition, he has been awarded ARA's National Outstanding Leadership award, Region 5 Person of the year, and was named 10 to watch under 40.
Above all, I wanted to know how Ian kept his generational business alive without making layoffs at a time when all their business was falling off the books. Ian said that being a part of his business analysis group helped him have a strong foundation for the pandemic and a great support system. Thanks to Ian having his ducks in a row before the pandemic, he quickly pivoted to providing chairs, tables, and tents for testing sites and delivery companies.
Now, after also taking advantage of government funding and getting his expenses in line, Ian is up over 50% this year and was able to acquire another business.
