AmiSight 6/1: Tariff Refunds Become a Cash Flow Boost for Importers

According to the Wall Street Journal, U.S. importers are beginning to receive refunds after the Supreme Court struck down several Trump-era tariffs earlier this year. For many small and middle-market businesses, the money is arriving at the right time. Companies featured in the article say they plan to use the refunds to pay suppliers, reduce debt, replenish inventory, and fund growth initiatives that had been delayed by rising costs and ongoing supply-chain pressure.
The bigger story is how much strain the tariffs placed on SMB cash flow over the last several years. Rather than treating the refunds as extra profit, most businesses appear focused on strengthening their balance sheets and restoring operational flexibility. A few companies are considering passing some of the savings back to customers, though doing so may be complicated both legally and operationally.
