We tend to always think about what could go wrong. Whether it is before a big meeting or a difficult conversation, we anticipate conflict. Before taking a risk, we imagine every possible obstacle waiting around the corner.
Before that next moment of overthinking, ask yourself: If your mind is capable of creating detailed stories about the worst-case scenario, why can't it create equally detailed stories about the best-case scenario?
What if the meeting goes better than expected? What if the conversation strengthens the relationship? What if the risk leads to an opportunity you never expected?
The reality is that neither outcome has happened yet. Both are simply possibilities. So, the next time you catch yourself rehearsing disaster, pause and ask: "What's the best thing that could happen?"
