As menu prices have climbed, consumers are increasingly picking up sushi, rotisserie chicken, sandwiches, and other ready-to-eat meals while doing their grocery shopping. They're getting convenience, quality, and value in one stop, a trend recently highlighted in Business Insider.
It's a reminder that disruption doesn't always come from someone who looks like you.
Too many business owners spend their time watching direct competitors while missing shifts in customer behavior. The real competition is often a completely different solution to the same problem.
Whether you're in lending, manufacturing, software, or retail, it's worth asking: Who else is solving my customer's problem—even if they don't look anything like my business?
Keep an eye on your competitors. But spend even more time watching your customers.
