Last week I spoke with an entrepreneur whose dad passed away two years ago; he and his sister have successfully taken over managing their business, and on the surface of it, all is going well. However, the entrepreneur called me because they have an eye on an acquisition in the next 18 to 24 months, and he wanted guidance on how to start planning for it.
While he is wise to look ahead, he doesn't have an interim plan for what to do in the middle. As a result, he can't articulate what investments he plans to make in his core business next year and how he plans to build it.
